The calathea is a beautiful houseplant with large variegated leaves in colors of green, white, yellow and purple. It's not an easy plant to grow, but if you are up to the challenge and give it good care, you can be successful. Provide a calathea with moderate light. Direct sunlight will make the leaf color less attractive and possibly burn the foliage. Keep soil continuously moist throughout spring and summer, and reduce watering in the winter.
Calathea have a reputation as a greenhouse plant, and it's easy to see why. They re highly sensitive to cold, drafts, and sudden temperature fluctuations. They grow best in warm, humid and bright stable conditions, but not direct sunlight.
